Cheyne Church is a multi-generational church committed to helping families become Christ-centered. Cheyne is a place of genuine connection-both with God and each other. We firmly believe that everyone is invited into a growing relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. We believe this relationship is eternal, vibrant and life-changing and we welcome you to join us!


Our roots run deep! Founded in 1844 and named in honour of Rev. George Cheyne, a Scottish minister who answered God's call and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to build God’s kingdom here in Stoney Creek. Cheyne has existed and ministered to this community for over 170 years! We echo the words and passion of John Knox, a minister to the Church of Scotland: "God, give me Scotland or I'll die!" We are just as passionate today to share the good news of Jesus Christ to our community, our country, and our world!


This Christ-centered faith we share on Sunday shapes how we love our families, serve our neighbours, and engage our city throughout the week. In Stoney Creek, and wherever God leads, we carry the mission of Jesus with us. Together, we are a family on mission to see His name known and His love felt in every home and heart.

We are committed to living out the values of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to love God, love others, and share the good news of Jesus Christ. 


Worship

Wholeheartedly Loving the God Who Loves Us - Enable everyone to actively participate in and experience God’s presence, and worship joyfully and sincerely with reverence and awe for God.


Serve Freely

We believe that serving is an outpouring of our love for God and we are to use our spiritual gifts to expand the kingdom and make disciples and to give generously of our finances to God’s work.


Grow Continually

To constantly be moving towards the cross, and growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour. Knowing Christ personally, sharing His love with others, and loving Him by obeying his word.


Live In Community

We believe God intended us to live in relationship with others, in the church and beyond. We can accomplish more together than apart. We are a multi-generational church who care for, respect, comfort, pray for, encourage, build up, and reconcile with each other.


Be On Mission

Taking the light, hope, and good news of Jesus Christ into the community and beyond, being ambassadors for Christ, sharing a message of lasting peace, joy, and fulfillment that only Jesus Christ can give.

  • The Bible

    The whole Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, to be exactly what God wanted to communicate to us. It is the supreme source of truth without error for Christian living.

  • God

    God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. There is only one God, who exists eternally as a Trinity of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God, yet the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are personally distinct from one another.

  • Jesus Christ

    Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity. The Son of God became the human, Jesus Christ, to reveal God to man and to become the Saviour of the lost world. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King.

  • The Holy Spirit

    The Hold Spirit is the third member of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit makes people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment that they accept Jesus as Saviour. He provides the Christian with power for living as God wants; understanding of spiritual truth; and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts to change the world for God. We should seek to live under His control daily.

  • People

    People are created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, humans are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own effort alone.

  • Salvation

    Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

  • The Christian Life

    Every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.

  • The Church

    The church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those that have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the lost world.

  • Heaven and Hell

    People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin in hell or eternally with God in heaven through forgiveness and salvation.
